Is your child suffering from frequent Upper Respiratory Tract infection?



 

                    There are varied no. of respiratory tract infections in adults and children. There are two types of Respiratory tract infectious.

                    1. Upper respiratory tract infections

                    2. Lower respiratory tract infections

    Let me explain about the upper respiratory tract infections. URT infections involves the Nasal passages, Pharynx, Larynx, Tonsils, Eustachian tube(Middle ear infections), sinuses. The infections that are occurring to our body is a result of microorganisms that enters via Inhalation, Food we eat, Water we consume and through Skin. Common bacteria and viruses involving in URT infections are:

             1. Viruses     -     Respiratory syncytial virus, Influenza, Paramyxoviruses, Rhinovirus, Corona virus.

            2. Bacteria    -    Bordetella pertussis, Corynebacterium diphtheriae, Hemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae. 

                Upper Respiratory Infections are considered to be the self limiting symptoms and usually presented with swelling of the upper airways associated with cough, sore throat, running nose, Nasal congestion, headache, low grade fever, facial pressure, sneezing, fatigue and muscle pain. The onset of the above symptoms usually begins 2 - 3 after the exposure and usually persists till 2 weeks or high.

COMMON HERBAL REMEDIES FOR UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS

1. Salt water Gargling

        Add 1 spoon of common salt to warm water along with a pinch of turmeric, gargle for four to five times a day. This act as an best antiseptic and further relief from the symptoms.

2. Herbal Paste

        Take 4 - 5 leaves of Five leaved chaste tree (Tamil name: Notchi), 3 nos of Garlic, 2 nos. of Black pepper and 1 Clove - All these are grinded well and made into a small paste. 

        Dosage: Amla size - Early morning in empty stomach - once a day; Repeat for five days.

     If your Child is not able to take in a paste form, administer in Decoction form by mixing this ingredients with four glasses of water and reduce it into 1 glass of water.

        Dosage: 30 - 40 mL, once a day in the early morning with empty stomach.

3. Vasaka Leaf Decoction(Tamil name: Adathodai, Botanical name: Justicia adhatoda)

        Take a handful of vasaka leaves and remove the midribs, take fresh juice out of it, later mix it with equal amount of honey.

        Dosage: 15 mL thrice a day

4. Swasakudori tablets

        If you are suffering with the symptoms like sore throat, running nose, facial pressure and nasal congestion. 

            Dosage: 1 Tab twice a day with betel leaf juice.

5. Tulsi leaf juice

            Handful of Tulsi leaves are taken and made fresh juice out of it. mix it with equal amount of honey.

            Dosage: 15 mL Twice a day after food
